Hattiesburg used a dominating defense and a tough running game to shut down Warren Central on Friday night, beating the Vikings 29-7.

Hattiesburg (2-1) rushed for 288 yards. On the flip side, the Tiger defense allowed just 91 yards rushing by the Vikings (0-3). Warren Central only had five first downs in the game.

“They just lined up and ran the ball right at us,” Warren Central coach Josh Morgan said. “They were more physical than us. On defense, in the first half, they totally shut us down. I don’t know how many first downs we got, but it wasn’t many.”

Hattiesburg running back Terrance Flowers rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. He scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter and a 43-yard run with 10:35 left in the fourth that put it on ice.

The Tigers also got a special teams touchdown just before halftime. Kendrick Killings picked up a fumble by Warren Central punter Devon Bell and returned it for a TD to make it 15-0 at the break.

Warren Central (0-3) will try again to break into the win column next week when it travels to face Natchez.
