A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail today charged with statutory rape, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

David Wylie Grogan, 23, 60 Roy Young Road, is accused of sexually assaulting a child younger than 16, Pace said. The assault is believed to have occurred late Friday night or early Saturday morning at the home of the victim, where friends and family had gathered.

Pace said family members reported the assault about 8 p.m. Tuesday after taking the child to River Region Medical Center where she was examined, treated and released.

Grogan is not related to the victim, Pace said.

He was being held at the jail pending an initial hearing today, said the sheriff.
