Vicksburg hosts undefeated Tylertown

For the first time in their high school careers, Vicksburg High’s players have had a week to savor a victory in the warm summer sun.

Doing it again, at least this week, won’t be easy.

The Gators, who snapped a 12-game losing streak in August and September games with last week’s win over Richwood, La., will welcome a loaded Tylertown squad to Memorial Stadium tonight.

Tylertown, the 2009 Class 3A champion, boasts a perfect 3-0 record that includes impressive wins over Forest and Franklin County — both of whom have been ranked in the Mississippi Associated Press poll this season.

The Chiefs are ranked No. 2 in Class 4A and might be the best team on Vicksburg’s schedule. Tylertown has also won both times they’ve faced the Gators in recent years, 42-7 in 2009 and 36-14 last season.
