With perfect weather conditions, officials at the Vicksburg National Military Park decided Monday was a great day to pour and spread concrete in preparation for the moving of the 18-foot-tall Georgia monument. The monument, on the South Loop near Fort Garrott, is being moved so visitors may more safely and easily visit it, said park superintendent Mike Madell. The monument is identical to Georgia memorials at Gettysburg, Antietam and Kennesaw Mountain. The monument is expected to be moved later this month.
