Flashes to battle Dexter Friday

St. Aloysius turned around its season last week with an impressive win over previously unbeaten Salem.
Friday, the Flashes (1-3, 1-1 Region 4-1A) try keep the momentum going when Dexter (0-3, 0-1) comes to Balzli Field. Dexter represents the second piece of three-game home stretch of key region games. University Christian — a school that switched from the MAIS to the MHSAA in June and beat Dexter 35-14 last week — visits St. Al on Sept. 23.
Flashes coach B.J. Smithhart preferred not to think about the three-game stretch, opting instead to keep the focus on Dexter, a team that St. Al has struggled with the last two years.
“They’ve beaten us the last two years and last year’s team went to South State (championship game) in (Class) 1A,” Smithhart said. “They still have that big-play capability and love to get to the edge, more so than Salem does.”
Two weeks after a disheartening loss to Greenville-St. Joe, Smithhart made some changes. One was on the offensive line.
