It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jerald David Broughton on Sept. 14, 2011, in Jackson, Miss.

Jerald was born in Hico, La., on Nov. 30, 1935, the first son of the late Theron Carl-ton Broughton and Iva Lee Bennett Broughton. Jerald was also predeceased by his daughter, Faye Broughton, and his brother, Jack Wayne Broughton. Jerald was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, John and Vernice Mobley, and two brothers-in-law, John Allen Mobley and Jerry Don Mobley.

Survivors are two sons, Jerald Theron Broughton of Utica and Scott Andrew Broughton of Arcadia, La., and their mother, Bettye Mobley Broughton, along with four grandchildren, Jarred, Charles, Makayla and Danille. There are two sisters, Linda Broughton Bridges of West Monroe, La., and Sue Broughton Cole of Section, Ala.; sister-in-law, Dee Ann Mount Broughton of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; and one brother-in-law, Barry Mobley of Ruston, La. Jerald is also survived by two aunts, Edith Hancock Bennett of Gibsland, La., and Yvonne Baker Bennett of Homer, La.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and special friend, Dottie.

Jerald graduated from Hico High School and Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston with a petroleum engineering degree. He served in the United States Army, stationed at Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, and continued working at Waterways Experiment Station during his entire career. His work led him throughout the United States and many parts of the world. Jerald was a faithful and generous man, beloved by family and friends.

Interment will be at Harmony Chapel Church Cemetery with Mitchell and Walker Funeral Home in charge at 2 p.m. Friday.
