It’s simply, uniquely, Southern – Vicksburg.

Main Street’s new logo combines muted colors and a simple, versatile design to promote the city’s downtown area and the community.

“I’m excited,” Vicksburg Main Street executive director Kim Hopkins said. “It’s great that I can have something to present to people and to use in our advertisements.”

She said the new logo and advertising formats, which include the legend, “Historic Downtown” at the top, will be shared with downtown businesses.

Developed by Greenville, S.C., -based Arnett Muldrow & Associates and the Mississippi Main Street Association, the logo is based on the city’s branding line: “Simply. Uniquely. Southern.”

Randy Wilson, director of design services for Mississippi Main Street, said the new logo can be used in brochures, signs, ads promoting the city and Main Street Events and by downtown businesses to promote themselves.

He said the logo package should be delivered to Vicksburg Main Street by October.

Wilson presented the new logo Thursday during a program attended by the Vicksburg Main Street Board of Directors, members of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau board and several local merchants.

The logo is the result of a three-day visit to the city in early May by a research team from Arnett Muldrow to gather information for the new logo and tag line to update Vicksburg Main Street’s 30-year-old image. The study’s $11,600 price was paid by the city.

“We held meetings, tours and interviews to find out what makes Vicksburg special, unique” Wilson said. “As we talked with people, we realized and understood that there are some unique features in Vicksburg. We tried to capture what you told us in a single statement. The city’s three-part tag line captures the essence of Vicksburg.”

He said the new branding program focuses on Vicksburg’s unique features — its historic downtown district, the river, historic homes and the National Military Park — not just one particular area of the city.

“We needed to update our logo, and this is very representative of what Vicksburg has to offer,” Vicksburg Main Street chairman Ronnie Bounds said. “As a board, we’ve been talking about doing signs and new brochures and banners, and this seemed like the time to do it.”
