Autopsy results released Monday confirmed preliminary findings in the deaths of three Warren County residents over the weekend, Coroner Doug Huskey said.
In one of two fatal car wrecks, Anthony Sims, 40, address unknown, died from multiple blunt force trauma from being struck by a motor vehicle Sunday, Huskey said.
Sims is believed to have been a pedestrian on U.S. 80 when he was struck around 5 a.m. by a 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 19-year-old Ashley King of Vicksburg, said Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol spokesman Cpl. Odis Easterling.
The car driven by King, whose address the trooper declined to release, veered off the road after hitting Sims and went down an embankment, said Easterling. She was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, he said.
King was airlifted to University Medical Center Sunday morning, and was in good condition this morning, said spokesman Matt Westerfield.
Sunday night, Kenneth F. Patterson, 32, 3159 Mount Alban Road, was killed in a single-car wreck at Jeff Davis and Mallet roads just before 8:30. The autopsy found that Patterson died of blunt force trauma, said Huskey.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Patterson was eastbound on Jeff Davis Road when his 1999 Chevrolet Blazer veered off the left side of the road, swerved and then overturned several times. Patterson was thrown from the vehicle, said Pace.
Huskey ruled the early Saturday morning death of 27-year-old Jacob L. Foster, 107 Saint Patrick St., accidental. Foster died from a single gunshot wound to the head, the autopsy showed.
Pace said Foster had arrived at the home of friends at 2505 Warriors Trail, Lot 20, shortly before the 12:15 a.m. shooting. Foster picked up the gun, which did not belong to him, took it out of its holster and was handling it when it discharged, killing him instantly, said the sheriff.
The autopsies were performed at the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Jackson, said Huskey.
Toxicology tests were also performed, but results take two to three months, he said.
Sims’ and Patterson’s deaths are the fifth and sixth traffic fatalities outside Vicksburg city limits in Warren County this year. Two others have died in city wrecks. One fatal wreck was recorded in the county in 2010 and two in the city.
Foster’s death was the third this year from accidental shooting. None was recorded in 2010.
