Hinds Community College did just about everything right on Thursday night.
Quarterback Deon Anthony threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns, the defense forced four turnovers and accounted for a score, and the special teams had yet another touchdown. It all added up to an easy road win for the Eagles, 48-17 over Mississippi Delta.
Anthony added another touchdown on the ground for Hinds (3-1), which blew the game open by scoring 34 points in the last 17 minutes of the first half.
Anthony’s 6-yard TD run tied the game at 7 with 1:33 left in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, former Port Gibson star Mitchell Hoskins returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead for good.
Anthony then threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter as Hinds sprinted to a 34-7 lead at halftime. His fourth TD went to Quadarius Mireles with 3:16 left in the third quarter to make it 41-10.
Kiwaski Tenner returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for Hinds’ final score. The Eagles’ special teams also blocked a field goal earlier in the game.
Harry Hampton threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter for Mississippi Delta (0-3), and Willie Moody scored on a 58-yard run in the fourth.
