Hinds rolls through Miss. Delta

Hinds Community College did just about everything right on Thursday night.

Quarterback Deon Anthony threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns, the defense forced four turnovers and accounted for a score, and the special teams had yet another touchdown. It all added up to an easy road win for the Eagles, 48-17 over Mississippi Delta.

Anthony added another touchdown on the ground for Hinds (3-1), which blew the game open by scoring 34 points in the last 17 minutes of the first half.

Anthony’s 6-yard TD run tied the game at 7 with 1:33 left in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, former Port Gibson star Mitchell Hoskins returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead for good.

Anthony then threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter as Hinds sprinted to a 34-7 lead at halftime. His fourth TD went to Quadarius Mireles with 3:16 left in the third quarter to make it 41-10.

Kiwaski Tenner returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for Hinds’ final score. The Eagles’ special teams also blocked a field goal earlier in the game.

Harry Hampton threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter for Mississippi Delta (0-3), and Willie Moody scored on a 58-yard run in the fourth.

Hinds will face East Central Community College for homecoming next Thursday at 7 p.m. in Raymond.
