City resident to read, sign books in N.O.

Dr. Murray Shugars, a Vicksburg resident and associate professor at Alcorn State University, will be in New Orleans this weekend reading and signing copies of his poetry book called “Songs My Mother Never Taught Me.”

Shugars is scheduled to be at the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library, 5120 St. Charles Ave., from 2 to 3 p.m. today and at the Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak St., from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The 63-page poetry book was published in April by Dos Madres Press.

Shugars is an associate professor in the Department of English and Foreign Languages and director of the Writing Center at ASU.

He also is a reservist in the Army National Guard.
