A look at how college football players with ties to the Vicksburg area did in games played over the weekend

• Tarleton State wide receiver Cordell Valentine (Warren Central) returned a kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown in a 44-13 loss to Midwestern State on Saturday. Valentine returned four kickoffs in the game for a total of 127 yards.

• Murray State defensive back Darius Buck (Warren Central) had one solo tackle and two assists in a 48-24 win over Georgia State.

• Central Arkansas receiver Derrick Steele (Hinds AHS) caught one pass for 21 yards in a 37-31 victory over Nicholls State.

• Mississippi State defensive back Marvin Bure (Vicksburg High) had one solo tackle and one assist in a 21-3 win over UAB.

• Mississippi State long snapper Reed Gordon (Porters Chapel) successfully snapped on six punts and three extra points for the Bulldogs.

• Mississippi College defensive end Dekores Branch (Vicksburg High) had one solo tackle and one assist in a 35-12 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
