A Cary man was fatally stabbed Sunday night, and his Rolling Fork girlfriend, already under indictment for previously stabbing him, has been charged in the death.
District Attorney Ricky Smith said today that Sharkey County officials informed his office Monday of the death and arrest.
Ledell Smith, 29, no street address available, was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m., said Sharkey County Coroner Angelia Eason. He died of a single stab wound to the left chest wall, Eason said.
Patricia Montgomery, 28, 165 Day St., was arrested late Sunday night, and was being held at the Issaquena County Jail. It was not clear if an initial hearing had been held, but Smith said he would request that she be held without bond.
Sharkey County Sheriff Lindsey Adams Jr. could not be reached.
Montgomery was indicted by the Sharkey County Grand Jury in August for aggravated assault-domestic violence in a stabbing June 11, Ricky Smith said.
Montgomery was scheduled for trial Feb. 13, said the DA.
Ledell Smith died at his home, said Eason, but Montgomery and her brother took the body by private vehicle to the hospital. Eason did not know what time the stabbing took place but said she was called at 11:05 p.m.
The weapon was not recovered, she said.
DA Smith said the man and woman share children, though the number was not known, and they did not live together.
