River Region Health System received a Delta Best award for health care at the Future of the Mississippi Delta Conference on Oct. 13 in Greenville.

The conference was a joint project of the newly formed Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact and the Delta Regional Authority.

The Delta Best awards were presented to individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to improve the Mississippi Delta in education, health care, tourism and economic development.

Glenn Carney, River Region chief operating officer, accepted the award on behalf of the 2010 Women’s Expo, which provided free health information and screenings to more than 800 women in Claiborne, Hinds, Issaquena, Sharkey, Yazoo and Warren counties.

The event was chaired by Diane Gawronski, former vice president of marketing at River Region. She also represents Warren County on the Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact Board.
