Breanna Foy scored 16 points, Aleesha Smith had 11 and Antoinette Mayfield chipped in 10 as Vicksburg overcame a poor first quarter to beat Wingfield.

The Missy Gators (2-0) scored only seven points in the opening period and trailed until Lexus Vaughn hit a 3-pointer with just under three minutes to play in the second quarter.

The shot put Vicksburg ahead 22-20, and it never trailed again. The Missy Gators kept the lead between five and 10 points until pulling away in the fourth quarter. They outscored Wingfield 17-5 in the final period to turn the game into a blowout.

“We got more aggressive on defense. We did better as far as our transition game tonight,” Vicksburg coach Barbara Hartzog said.
