Elgin Kelloy Walley

BROOKHAVEN — Elgin Kelloy Walley passed Nov. 20, 2011, at his home in Brookhaven. Born Nov. 21, 1920, in the Sand Hill community of Greene County, he attended Jones Junior College and graduated from Mississippi State University with a master’s degree in agricultural education.

Mr. Walley proudly served in the 8th Army Air Corps at Duxford, England, during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he taught vocational agriculture at Culkin Academy in Vicksburg, Monticello High School and Jefferson High School in Fayette.

In 1967, he accepted employment with the Farmers Home Administration in Kemper County and transferred to the Brookhaven office in 1971. He retired from federal employment in 1986. Mr. Walley was a member of the Brookhaven Lions Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Walley was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Warren County for 14 years, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1948. More recently, Macedonia Baptist Church honored him as Deacon Emeritus in appreciation for his long and faithful service to his church and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard H. Walley and Willie Edith Byrd Walley, as well as his brothers, Jerrold W. Walley and Richard Hoyt Walley, and his son-in-law, Jimmy L. Clements.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Eva Allen Walley; daughter, Karen Walley Clements; and son, Dr. Elgin Kenneth Walley and his wife, Rebecca, and their sons, Elgin Kenneth Walley Jr. and Richard Allen Walley.

Visitation is at Riverwood Family Funeral Home in Brookhaven from 5 until 9 tonight, Nov. 22, 2011. Additional visitation will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at noon with funeral services at 1 p.m. and interment at the church cemetery.
