Cora Virginia Lishman Neal

Cora Virginia “Vertie” Lishman Neal died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at her home. She was 98.

Mrs. Neal was born in Cleveland, and had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She worked at The Valley department store before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lizzie Lishman; her husband of 65 years, Homer E. “Big Homer” Neal; her son, Homer D. “Little Homer” Neal; and two sisters, Doris May and Kathryn Livingston.

She is survived by a stepsister, Irene Jones of Vicksburg; a stepbrother, Fred McCain of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. James Messer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Friday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Dan Tipton, Joe Battalio and nephews Frank May, David Neal, Elma Neal Malone and Bobby Dietz.

Honorary pallbearers will be her caregivers, Florence Johnson, Sheena May, Andrea Johnson, Georgia Moore, Elizabeth Bass and Tanisha Bass.
