An Arkansas woman died in a one-car wreck on Thanksgiving morning on U.S. 65 in Madison Parish.
Ida Jones, 67, of Pine Bluff, was one of two passengers in a southbound 2002 Mercury Marquis just north of Tallulah on the two-lane highway at about 8:25 a.m. when the driver attempted to pass another southbound vehicle, a release from Louisiana State Police Troop F said.
The driver, Eddie Goodlow, 75, over-corrected to avoid a northbound vehicle and ran off the right side of the highway, went through a guardrail and a steep ditch before landing in a field.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office. Goodlow and another passenger, Shederick Ringo, 59, were treated and released from River Region Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said this morning.
Goodlow was cited for careless operation, the release said. He and Jones were wearing seat belts, though police said Jones’ seat belt was worn with the shoulder belt portion beneath her arm.
