More adoptions needed as Angel Tree nears end

Saturday is the deadline for Angel Tree gifts to be returned in the Salvation Army’s annual gift drive to benefit children and seniors.
About 250 “angels” still need to be “adopted,” said Phyllis Renfro, coordinator of this year’s program.
“We have just depended on the community for years, and they have never, ever let us down,” said Renfro. “I’m expecting and hoping they will do the same this year.”
For several weeks, Angel Trees have been set up at the Vicksburg Mall, local churches and other locations, she said. Each is decorated with angel tags containing the name, age and suggested gift items for kids and seniors chosen to participate in the programs.
All angel tags remaining on the trees will be consolidated to main Angel Tree at the mall tree today and Monday, Renfro said, so anyone who can “adopt” an angel should go there to choose their gift recipient.
Gifts should be returned to the mall by Saturday, unwrapped and in the clear plastic bag provided by the Angel Tree volunteers when the gift tag is chosen.
