Group seeking shelter sets Jan. 9 session on homeless

Transitional housing and the homeless situation in Vicksburg and Warren County are expected to be the topic of a public gathering Jan. 9 organized by Mountain of Faith Ministries, an organization proposing to create a homeless retreat at the former ParkView Regional Medical Center.

A PowerPoint presentation on the issue will highlight the event, set for 5:15 p.m. at Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library, said Tina Hayward, executive director of the Vicksburg-based nonprofit.

Mountain of Faith has asked the Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals to change how the former hospital complex on McAuley Drive and Grove Street is zoned so a housing facility for homeless people may operate there. On Dec. 7, the board tabled the matter at the group’s request and rescheduled a hearing for Jan. 10.
