GWYNN OAK, Md. — Michael A. Fields, 44, of Gwynn Oak, Md., died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at his home. He was born in Vicksburg to the union of Robert and Dollie (Wade) Fields. Moving to New Orleans as a child with his mother, Michael graduated from Kennedy High School in 1985. A loyal and trusted friend, dedicated father and beloved husband and son, Michael enjoyed people and loved life.
Entering the Navy shortly after high school, in 1987, Michael’s career included 13 years active duty and 11 years in the Navy and Army Reserves. At the time of his passing he was a petroleum quality assurance sergeant (92L) with headquarters and headquarters company, 165th Quartermaster Group, Fort Belvoir, Va.
In addition to his uniformed service, Michael worked for the Social Security Administration for four years; was a security site supervisor for Raytheon Company; and he owned a landscaping company.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Fields; and grandparents, Calvin and Bertha Wade.
He is survived by wife, Martha Bullock-Fields; three children: son, Robert Fields of Gwynn Oak and daughters, Kristian Fields of Atlanta, Ga., and Venea Fields of Norfolk, Va.; his mother and stepfather, Dollie and George Rankin, New Orleans; stepfather, Walter Harris, New Orleans; grandmother, Maggie Fields, Vicksburg; sisters, Lori (Stan) Jenkins, Stockbridge, Ga., Shavon Fields, Chicago, and Katrina Moore, Vicksburg; stepsisters, Lynette Harris, Valley Ranch, Texas, and Beverly Johnson, Mesquite, Texas; and a host of other relatives, including Khloe Jenkins of Stockbridge, and long-term friends, John Johnson, Freddie Myers, Reggie Stewart, Roger Dean and Dexter Gibbs.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 805 Monroe St. in Vicksburg, with the Rev. Arnita M. Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, with a wake from 6 until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held in Gwynn Oak at 1 p.m. Jan. 21, Sheridan US Army Reserve Center, 5515 Liberty Heights Ave., with the Rev. Gertrude Stevens officiating; and at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28, HHC, 165th Quartermaster Group, Fort Belvoir, Va., officiated by Chaplain (1LT) John Downs.
