A broken-down car that its owner said he left miles away was found burning on a county road Tuesday night and with its wheels missing, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The owner told deputies he had left his car on Interstate 20 East, near the Bovina exit, at about 8:30 and called for a ride. At about 9:20, the car was found burning with wheels missing in the 1000 block of Freetown Road.

Pace said deputies were talking with the owner today in an attempt to solve the mystery.
