Michael Elance Forbes died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. He was 61.

A native of Marion County, he had lived in the Jeff Davis community for the past year after retiring as a science teacher at Columbia High School. He was a graduate of Pearl River Junior College and the University of Mississippi. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Forbes was preceded in death by his father, Thomas B. Forbes Jr.; his sister, Karla Forbes McDaniel; and a brother, Patrick Nelson Forbes.

He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Jean Cotton Forbes of Yokena; two brothers, Thomas B. Forbes III of Boston and Jeffrey E. Forbes of Yokena; an uncle, Gordon Cotton of Yokena; and a special friend, Theresa Sibley of Columbia.

A private service will be later with Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia in charge.
