Bessie Elaine Pittman

Bessie Elaine Pittman died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at her home. She was 76.

Mrs. Pittman owned and operated Pittman’s Grocery and Deer Processing until 1999, when she retired. She had lived in Vicksburg since 1963 and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Pittman; her parents, Howard and Leona Gunter; a sister, Francis Redmon; and a brother, Howard West Gunter Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Lindy Varner of Brenam, Texas, and Perry Pittman of Raymond; two daughters, Paula Jones of Vicksburg and Peggy Boyd of Raymond; four sisters, Alice Groves of Florida, Pat Nelson of Willow City, Texas, and Becky Wardlaw and Jane Calhoun, both of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Frank Lescallette officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Abbott, Ben Luckett, Barry Vinson, Shane Rowland, John Johnston, Ricky Pennington and Larry Vinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Calhoun, Tom Wardlaw, Dan Groves and Frank Nelson.
