Mississippi State finished off a busy weekend in style Sunday.

Daryl Norris doubled in a pair of runs in the first inning, Adam Frazier and Wes Rea each had two hits and an RBI, and the Bulldogs beat Mississippi Valley State 5-1.

The victory completed a four-game sweep of Valley and Kansas in a four-game round robin tournament at Dudy Noble Field. MSU has won five in a row overall.

The Bulldogs (6-1) had 35 hits in the four games this weekend, and they never trailed on Sunday. After a pair of two-out walks in the bottom of the first, Norris doubled to left-center to stake MSU to a 2-0 lead.

Valley’s Daniel Anderson delivered an RBI double in the third inning to cut it to 2-1, but the Delta Devils never got closer. Frazier made it 3-1 with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, then C.T. Bradford and Rea had back-to-back RBI singles in the eighth to give MSU some breathing room.

Will Cox started on the mound for Mississippi State and turned in seven solid innings. He gave up one unearned run on only three hits, walked none and struck out eight.

“I knew early in the week I was going to start,” said Cox, a freshman right-hander from Amory who made his first college start. “It kept building up to today. I think the whole town of Amory was here. This is an awesome feeling to have a chance to get on that mound and pitch.”
