A wanted Vicksburg man led police on a cross-county chase Friday before wrecking his car near Edwards.

Phoenix Givens, 37, 1214 Main St., is charged with felony eluding after leading the high speed chase, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Givens was driving a Chevrolet Caprice near Clay and Hays, when Patrolman Shawn White recognized him as having seven misdemeanor warrants for his arrest and attempted a traffic stop, Stewart said.

Givens sped down Clay Street and east onto Interstate 20 and eventually wrecked near the Edwards exit where was arrested, Stewart said.

Givens was being held Friday in lieu of $10,000 bail.
