A house fire believed started by a lightning strike damaged an Eagle Lake weekend home Tuesday, said Kelly Worthy, Warren County volunteer fire department coordinator.

Eagle Lake and Northeast volunteer fire departments were notified about 6:30 p.m. of the fire at 411 Sea Island Drive, said Worthy.

“A witness said he saw lightning strike and shortly afterwards saw smoke coming out of the roof,” he said. “I can’t verify that, but it’s very possible.”

The home is owned by Vicksburg resident Harvey Oliver, but no one was there at the time of the blaze, said Worthy.

Damage from smoke and water was contained to one section of the house. Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour and a half, with no injuries reported and no other structures involved, said Worthy.
