A small fire shut down outage work in a portion of Entergy’s Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson Wednesday.

“There was no danger to plant employees or the public,” said Grand Gulf spokeswoman Suzanne Anderson.

An unknown number of workers were forced to exit when a fire broke out in the condenser area of the plant about 30 miles south of Vicksburg at 6:26 p.m., she said.

Grand Gulf firefighters cleared the scene by 7 p.m., Anderson said. The damage was not expected to significantly delay work at the plant to increase Grand Gulf’s power, Anderson said.

“We are still in outage and we are continuing to move forward safely,” she said.

A message for Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Roger Hannah was not immediately returned.
