A Petal man was injured this morning following a wreck on Interstate 20 West.

Derek Cooley, 19, 4989 Mississippi 29, Petal, was injured when his 2005 Ford Mustang ran off the left side of the interstate near the Department of Transportation truck scales at about 6 a.m., Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Cooley was taken to River Region Medical Center, and from there he was taken to University Medical Center, Pace said.

Cooley’s condition was being evaluated this morning, a UMC spokesman said.

The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol is investigating the crash, Pace said.

Kelly Worthy, Warren County volunteer fire department coordinator, said multiple wrecks were reported around the county in this morning’s rain, but no injuries were reported.
