After a brief two-game winning streak, the Mississippi Braves resumed their awful April.
Seth Loman went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, Tyler Saladino drove in three runs, and Birmingham beat the M-Braves 7-2 on Monday night.
The loss dropped the M-Braves’ record to 7-12. It was the 11th time in 19 games they’ve scored two runs or fewer, and they’ve been shut out four times.
Birmingham jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and never trailed. Three straight singles, the last by Jose Martinez, brought in the game’s first run. Loman scored on a wild pitch and Saladino brought home another run with a bases-loaded walk.
Birmingham added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-1 lead. The Barons batted around, as Loman delivered an RBI double and later scored on a base hit by Kenneth Williams, and Saladino had a two-run single.
Mississippi scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Phillip Gosselin, and in the seventh on an RBI double by Andrelton Simmons.
Cameron Bayne (2-0) allowed one run on six hits over six innings to earn the win for Birmingham. He walked two batters and struck out four.
David Hale (2-2) was tagged for seven runs in 52⁄3 innings and took the loss for the M-Braves.
The teams conclude their five-game series tonight in Birmingham at 7:05. The M-Braves then return to Trustmark Park on Wednesday to start a five-game series against Huntsville. Wednesday’s series opener starts at 7 p.m.
