Two Vicksburg natives will highlight this year’s Vicksburg Chamber Music Festival, artistic director Dorothy Brasfield said.
Performing will be Vicksburg natives Dr. Katherine Coleman Boone, a theater and opera performer, and guitarist John David Hosemann.
“We are very happy to have Katherine and John David as a part of this year’s festival,” Brasfield said. “Katherine was one of our first guests when the series began.”
In its 13th year, the festival series is presented by the local nonprofit arts organization Four Seasons of the Arts and will include three straight Sunday performances beginning this week.
Boone, who is the daughter of Bob and Sissy Coleman of Vicksburg and received her DMA in Vocal Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory will open the series at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
“She will perform a full program including varied classical selections and tunes from Broadway musicals,” Brasfield said.
Boone has performed with several theater and opera companies including the Kansas City Puccini Festival, Natchez Opera Festival, Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, The Theatre in the Park and the Leawood Stage Company.
On May 6 the series will feature the The Capital Brass at Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
The Capital Brass of Jackson features six professional musicians from across the country who perform classics, blues, jazz and patriotic selections, according to Brasfield.
The concert is scheduled for 6 p.m. and costs $15 for adults and $5 for students.
To round out the series Hosemann, son of David and Connie Hosemann, of Vicksburg, will join classical guitarist John de Chiaro May 13 for a Mother’s Day luncheon at The Duff Green Mansion.
“de Chiaro has performed in Vicksburg before and is a crowd-pleaser,” Brasfield said. “He is currently featured regularly on Sirius Radio Channels 75 and 76.”
The duo will perform a varied musical performance said organizer Frances Koury, who is also Hosemann’s grandmother.
Hosemann is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently a member of the Fulton Brothers Band of Baton Rouge.
The cost of the luncheon is $30 for adults and $10 for students and a cash bar will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required and can be obtained by calling 601-636-6968.
