Miss Lyons to wed Mr. Strickland at First Baptist

Joe and Cindy Lyons of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Beth, to Michael David Strickland. Mr. Strickland is the son of Martha Debra Strickland and Mike Strickland, both of Vicksburg.

Miss Lyons is the granddaughter of Shearwood and Wilma Lyons and John Bowen Jr. and the late Marilyn Bowen, all of Vicksburg.

Mr. Strickland is the grandson of Martha Ann May Klaus and the late David May of Vicksburg.

The bride-elect is a 2004 graduate of St. Aloysius High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, varsity cheerleading and fast-pitch softball and basketball teams. She was a member of the Vicksburg Cotillion Club and Sub-Debs service club.

She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in journalism and English in 2008 from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and the Student Programming Board and was a feature writer for The Daily Mississippian.

Miss Lyons is marketing and special events manager for the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. She also serves on boards for the Vicksburg Association of Marketing Professionals, Public Relations Association of Mississippi River City Chapter, Miss-Lou Regional Tourism Association and the RiverFest planning committee.

The prospective groom is a 2002 graduate of St. Aloysius High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club and the varsity football, track and soccer teams.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy in 2007 and a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness management in 2008 from Mississippi State University.

Mr. Strickland is a farmer and owner of Strick’s Harvesting LLC of Warren County.

Vows will be exchanged at 6:30 p.m. June 30, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. A reception will follow at the Rainbow Casino Arena Room. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Following a honeymoon to Oahu, Hawaii, the couple will make their home at Eagle Lake.
