A Port Gibson woman was charged with felony assault Thursday when she boarded a school bus and attacked the driver who was dropping off her children, Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said Saturday.
Delwanna Anderson, 33, 1058 Leon Thompson Drive, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. following the assault near her home, said Lucas.
Anderson’s younger, elementary school-aged child had reportedly “thrown a tantrum” on the floor of the bus and the driver had made the child get up, Lucas said. The child’s older sister, a middle school student, reportedly called her mother on a cell phone to report the driver had “mistreated” the younger child.
Lucas said any assault on school property is a felony. Students are also not allowed to use cell phones while riding the bus, he said.
The driver was treated for minor injuries, and Anderson did not have a weapon.
Anderson was taken to the Claiborne County Jail where she was released Friday after posting $500 bond, Lucas said.
