Arson suspected in blaze that demolished flooded home

Arson is suspected in the Saturday night fire that destroyed a vacant house being demolished at 114 Williams St. in Ford Subdivision, Vicksburg Fire Department investigator Leslie Sanders said.

She said firefighters were called to the fire about 9:46 p.m. and arrived to find the house owned by Rosie and Louis Craft engulfed in flames. She said no utilities were connected to the house.

The house was one of the many homes inundated in the Ford Subdivision and Kings community during the Spring 2011 flood, when the Mississippi River river reached 57.1 feet, or 14.1 feet above flood stage and nine-tenths of a foot higher than the Great Flood of 1927.
