The former fiancee of a Warren County man who died after a beating in Jackson was charged Wednesday with multiple financial crimes involving the man to whom she was engaged, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Susan Gould, 29, 627 Wright Road, was charged with identity theft, grand larceny and forgery, Pace said.
Gould was the live-in fiancee of 61-year-old Fred Jackson. He died March 9 after being in a coma for 41 days following a beating while he was working in Jackson.
Gould is accused of setting up multiple credit cards in Jackson’s name and writing checks on his checking account while he was hospitalized, Pace said. She also is accused of stealing a welding machine and generator from Jackson’s truck, Pace said.
Gould was stopped on Mississippi 27 around 7 p.m. Wednesday after deputies received reports of a driver of a “green SUV driving erratically,” Pace said. Gould was reportedly driving while sending text messages, he said.
Upon stopping her, “Sergeant Ford Emery recognized her as someone we had a warrant on,” Pace said.
Gould was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail awaiting her initial court appearance.
Jackson was beaten Jan. 29 while working at Tri-Miss Services, a salvage yard at 416 Woodrow Wilson Drive in Jackson.
Police said he suffered severe head trauma and his face was shattered in the attack. A cell phone, $500 and a payroll check were stolen from him in the attack, Jackson police spokesman Colendula Green said.
Jontez Garvis, 29, and David Thomas, 25, both of Jackson, were arrested several days after the attack. They initially were charged with aggravated assault, and charges were upgraded to capital murder after Jackson died.
His Wright Road home was burglarized Feb. 2. His daughter, Sheila Hedrick, who lived next door to her father, said jewelry, small appliances, clothing and gifts were missing and other items were trashed.
