Slow the big rigs

I am not finding anyone guilty in the wreck on U.S. 61 North that killed two people this week. The article in the paper was a little confusing and didn’t give any reasons for the wreck.

I will say that many of the big rigs that travel this portion of highway are going so fast they’d never stop quickly in the event they needed to. Daily, I’m at the light at Culkin Road and U.S. 61 and frequently the light at River Region Medical Center at U.S 61. Most trucks traveling this span of highway appear to be exceeding the speed limit.

Being cumbersome themselves and with heavy loads, they could never stop quickly in an emergency. I think the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol could hire more patrolmen with the extra money they’d collect in fines if they’d just wait for the people to drive by.

Of course, they couldn’t be visible as this is a sure way to slow everyone down. Just my own opinion.
