Lana Blackwell of Gautier and Dr. Phil Thompson of Raleigh announce the engagement of their daughter, Allison Leanna Thompson, to John Herren Hughes III. Mr. Hughes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes Jr. of Vicksburg.

Miss Thompson is the granddaughter of Paul and Mava Garner and Orzell Thompson and the late W.L. Thompson, all of Raleigh.

Mr. Hughes is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Sanderson of Redwood and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes of Vicksburg.

The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Madison Ridgeland Academy. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Mississippi State University in 2010.

Miss Thompson is a system engineer at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson.

The prospective groom is a 1994 graduate of Porters Chapel Academy.  

Mr. Hughes is an instrumentation and electrical technician at Ergon Refining in Vicksburg.

Vows will be exchanged May 19, 2012, in an afternoon ceremony in Vicksburg. A reception will follow.

The couple will make their home in Vicksburg.
