Rachel L. Walker

Rachel L. Walker died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Walker was a longstanding member of Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church. She was an usher for many years before becoming a mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Clara Marshall; husband, Ed Walker; daughter, Ed Jean McClendon; six brothers, John Marshall Jr., Leonard Swanagan, Wilmore Swanagan, Talmadge Swanagan, Cornegia Marshall and William Marshall; sister, Adeline Kirkwood; and two grandsons, Darrell McIntosh and Darryl Nervis.

Survivors include her daughter, Bertha McIntosh-Grissett (Jack) of Norfolk, Va.; granddaughters, Brenda Nervis and Veronica Stewart, both of Vicksburg, Michelle McIntosh of Memphis, Tenn., and Tanya McLean of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandson, Christopher Neal of Jackson; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Carrie Banks and Christine Kirkwood, both of Chicago, Alice Worth, Maereatha Jones and Erma J. Miller, all of Jackson; three brothers, James Marshall (Dorothy) of Jackson, Robert Marshall of Rockford, Ill., and Menual Neal of Markham, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including the Tribble family.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 6 until 7 p.m.
