Bail was set at $225,000 for each of the three men accused of kidnapping and robbing two Louisiana women Sunday at a Vicksburg Waffle House.
Judge Toni Terrett set bail for Perry McAbee, 25, 1313 Florence Ave., Jackson; Felix Howard, 28, 825 Boston Road, Apt. 40, Pearl; and Cedric Akiti, 26, 5416 Mimosa Drive, Jackson.
All three were charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and auto burglary.
They were in the Warren County Jail this morning.
Akiti also is being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections because he is on parole for auto burglary, making him ineligible to post bail.
McAbee and Howard said they had hired their own attorneys, but neither of their attorneys appeared in court. The initial court appearance had been set for 10 a.m. this morning, but was moved up to 8:45. Akiti asked for a court-appointed attorney.
The three men are accused of kidnapping two Monroe, La., women outside the Waffle House on Warrenton Road at 12:45 a.m. Sunday. One of the men forced the women into a blue and silver Dodge Magnum after pulling a silver semi-automatic handgun, but it was unclear which man had the gun.
The women went to the restaurant to meet two men with whom they had exchanged phone numbers while at Ameristar Casino, police Lt. Sandra Williams said. The women were released uninjured on Rifle Range Road after the men stole an HTC cell phone from them, according to court documents.
The women walked to a house on Rifle Range, and the homeowner called 911, Williams said.
Following the kidnapping, the men returned to Waffle House and burglarized the women’s 2007 Chevrolet HHR, stealing two purses containing credit cards and an AT&T Go phone, Williams said. A credit card from one of the purses had been used in Jackson, Williams said.
