A Warren County teenager was in fair condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center Friday night recovering from injuries he received in a go-cart accident near his home.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Rocky Howard Jr., 13, 1676 Jeff Davis Road, received serious injuries in the Friday afternoon accident and was flown by helicopter to UMMC. He said Joe Washington, 13, 175 Buford Drive, a passenger, was treated for minor injuries at the scene by Vicksburg Fire Department paramedics.

Pace said the accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. He said Howard and Washington were riding the go-cart on a dirt path behind Howard’s house when the cart slid, struck a tree and overturned.

He said fire department paramedics called from the scene for the helicopter, and met it at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport. The helicopter was waiting at the airport for the teen when the ambulance arrived, he said.
