Doris Barnes

Doris Barnes died Friday, May 18, 2012, at her residence. She was 85.

Born and reared in Philadelphia, Pa., she had been making her home in Vicksburg since 1976 where she was formerly employed by the Bechtel Corp. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed needlework, stained glass work and other crafts. She attended the Bovina Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William J. “Bill” Barnes; her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Mae Mack Wiltshire; and three sisters, Edna Mae Boucher, Stella Mae Heron and Dorothy Ann Bennett.

She is survived by her daughter, Debby Runnels (Tommy) of Vicksburg; sons, William Barnes (Lydia) of Vicksburg, Michael Barnes of Las Vegas, Nev., Richard Barnes of Vicksburg and Gary Barnes of Tallulah, La.; 14 grandchildren, including her beloved caregiver, David M. Wheelock Sr. of Vicksburg; 22 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev. John Evans officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday at noon until the hour of the service.
