Stop attacking Brown

I’m a junior at The University of Mississippi, majoring in Civil Engineering. While living in Oxford for the past two years in college, I have grown to love the Oxford Eagle and The Daily Mississippian (campus newspaper). Unfortunately I can’t say the same about my hometown paper, The Vicksburg Post.
It is very obvious that a staff member isn’t very fond of a few of the elected officials in Vicksburg. If a Vicksburg Post staff member has a personal issue, whether it stems from envy or the election results, then that should not be carried into his or her job. This has been displayed in the paper throughout the summer.
Instead of continually writing articles about how you feel an elected official is incompetent, write about the good events that are going on in this city.
I feel that the “Residents left on the hook” article in the June 24 paper about Warren County Tax Assessor Angela Brown was unnecessary.
Can the writer of that article handle the Tax Assessor’s position? The answer is no, because he or she isn’t qualified or certified by the state of Mississippi as the Tax Assessor is.
There are no reports on how the Circuit Clerk or Tax Collector are doing their duties, yet the Tax Assessor is written about frequently. I have had associates in Oxford personally call me and say that they see this as an attack against a newly elected official. Slander of public officials is knowingly expected in politics, but not to this childish extent.
The Tax Assessor hasn’t been in office eight months. I’m sure any Warren County citizen can walk into the Tax Assessor’s office and talk to her about any concerns.
