One of Mississippi’s former college baseball stars helped hand its professional team a loss Monday.

Former Mississippi State star Ed Easley brought in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning, and Mobile added four runs in the seventh to blow the game open as it beat the Mississippi Braves 6-2.

Easley, a former Mississippi State star who won the Ferriss Trophy in 2007, finished the game 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Marc Krauss had two hits, including an RBI double in the seventh inning, and Matt Davidson belted a three-run homer for Mobile.

Four Mobile pitchers combined to limit the M-Braves to just three hits, while striking out 12. Starter Chase Anderson allowed one run on one hit through five innings, but left with a no-decision. Reliever Kevin Munson (3-3) pitched one scoreless inning and got the win.

The M-Braves got a solo home run from Joe Leonard in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead, then didn’t score again until the ninth. They only had three baserunners in between.

The M-Braves and BayBears will wrap up their three-game series in Mobile tonight at 7:05. The M-Braves then return home to Trustmark Park to start another three-game set against Jackson on Wednesday.

Former major league All-Star Ben Sheets, recently signed by the Atlanta Braves, will start Wednesday for the M-Braves. The game begins at 7 p.m.
