Christian Bethancourt wasn’t able to score the winning run Friday night, so he had to settle for driving it in.

Bethancourt’s RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning drove in the winning run, giving the Mississippi Braves a 3-2 win over the Jackson Generals at Trustmark Park.

Bethancourt finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. He also had a base hit in the eighth inning, but was thrown out at the plate while trying to score on a ground ball by Greg Paiml.

The M-Braves had tied the game at 1 earlier in the eighth on an RBI double by Alden Carrithers. It stayed tied until the top of the 12th, when Jackson’s Stefen Romero scored on an attempted double steal to give the Generals a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 12th, Jordan Parraz drew a one-out walk and scored on a single by Jason Christian to tie it at 2. Bethancourt followed with his second hit of the game, bringing in Todd Cunningham to give the M-Braves the 3-2 win.

The M-Braves will host Birmingham in a doubleheader beginning at 5 tonight. Brandon native Brent Leach will start on the mound for the M-Braves in game two, which starts at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The teams will then take Sunday off before wrapping up the three-game series Monday night at 7.
