Chester Ray Barber

Chester Ray “Chet” Barber died on Saturday, July 7, 2012. His final days were spent at home surrounded by his family. He was 67.

Born in Chunky, Miss., on Dec. 18, 1944, he was the son of the late Mettro Barber and Katherine Curry Barber.

Mr. Barber graduated from Hickory High School in Hickory, Miss., in the class of 1963 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Mississippi State University in 1968.

His engineering career spanned 35 years with many accomplishments. He was a former employee of Cessna Aircraft, Westinghouse, Penco and Dynasteel of Natchez.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra McNamara Barber; daughter, Tracy Barber Donaldson; stepchildren, Jay Jeffers, Delores Thornton (Billy) and Glenn Jeffers, all of Vicksburg, and Stoney Qualls (Josie) of Learned; grandchildren, James Grey Harrison, Edward James Donaldson V, Austin Jeffers, Erika Jeffers, Jesse Qualls, Jacqualynn Qualls and Blake and Blair Thornton; and two brothers, Earl Barber (Debbi) of Mesa, Ariz., and Tim Barber (Patti) of Chunky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Casey Erin Jeffers; and a grandson, Billy Ray Thornton Jr.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at Riles Funeral Home.
