A Warren County fire coordinator is expected to be named Monday, after the seven candidates were interviewed Wednesday, Board of Supervisors president Bill Lauderdale said.
“We’re going to do some more talking around, check references,” Lauderdale said.
The choice will coordinate fire response among the six volunteer fire protection districts outside Vicksburg. Two volunteer chiefs, Jerry Briggs of Culkin and Robert Pell of LeTourneau, and emergency dispatcher Matt Garrard have applied. Names of the other four have not been released by the board.
The position, which board members decided this month will pay $32,796 annually, has been vacant since former coordinator Kelly Worthy retired in May. The environmental officer title previously included in the duties of the position has been passed to the environmental clerk.
About 85 to 100 volunteers man the fire districts, depending on the season. About 2 mills are tacked onto residential and commercial property tax bills in each district to finance each department.
