Former VHS football coaches slighted at fieldhouse dedication

I was excited to read in the June 28 issue of The Vicksburg Post that Vicksburg High School’s fieldhouse was finally being replaced.
As I continued to look at the people, coaches in particular, invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony, I was shocked that not one of the former VHS head football coaches was present, or in the picture.
This was disturbing to me because I know that coach J.W. Knox lives in Vicksburg and would have been at the ceremony if he had been invited. I also know coach Alonzo Stevens, my dad, would have been present as well.
Coach Knox and Coach Stevens have worked in that fieldhouse since the fieldhouse was moved from Lanes Hill to Memorial Stadium. The fieldhouse was effectively given the name “The Swamp” many years ago by those two coaches.
The professionalism that VHS has always shown in the past was not demonstrated in this case.
When you look at the Vicksburg Warren School District lately, professionalism is something it seems to lack. Maybe when the fieldhouse is completed, former VHS coaches will be invited to attend the grand opening.
It looks like we will have to wait and see if this common courtesy is extended.
