Bail was denied Monday for a Vicksburg man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend Friday at the casino where she works.
Municipal Judge Nancy Thomas ordered Clarence Jones, 23, 506 Kirkland Road, be held without bail in an aggravated assault at Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St.
Jones is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Jordan Melton, 23, 404 Culkin Road, while she was working as a waitress at the casino, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.
Jones, who was under a court-ordered restraining order to stay away from Melton, stabbed her with a knife multiple times in the back and torso on the crowded casino floor, Stewart said. Casino security and patrons witnessed the stabbing and were able to restrain Melton, Stewart said.
Melton suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to River Region Medical Center, where she remained in good condition today, Stewart said. A hospital spokesman said he had no record on her, which could mean Melton or family members have asked that no information about her condition be made public.
The stabbing was recorded on the casino’s surveillance cameras, Stewart said.
In April, Jones was arrested for aggravated domestic violence and burglary after beating Melton in the face, according to jail records. During that attack, she suffered head trauma and facial injuries and subsequently was hospitalized. Melton had a restraining order put in place against Jones after the first attack, Stewart said.
Jones remained in the Warren County Jail this morning.
