A pedestrian hit by a car and a man injured when his motorcycle ran off the road were hospitalized in separate wrecks over the weekend, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
David S. Butler, 73, 1845 St. Ann St., Jackson, was struck around 6 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Super Junior convenience store and gas station at 1490 U.S. 61 North, Pace said.
Brooke Williams, 19, 26 Applewood Drive, driving a 2007 Chrysler 300, had pulled off the highway into the lot when she struck Butler, who fell and hit his head, said the sheriff.
Butler was taken to River Region Medical Center and then flown to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he was in good condition this morning, spokesman Matt Westerfield said.
Williams was not cited and has not been charged, but the investigation is continuing, Pace said.
Sunday at 8:40 p.m., Kelvin J. Mathews, 56, 275 Buford Drive, was injured when he lost control of his 2005 Harley-Davidson while westbound on Dana Road near its intersection with Grange Hall Road. He veered off the right side of the road at a curve, Pace said. No other vehicles were believed to be involved.
Mathews was taken to RRMC and then flown to UMC, said Pace. UMC had no listing for Mathews this morning, Westerfield said. The lack of a listing might mean the patient or family asked the hospital not to release information about him.
