NEWELLTON — A Louisiana man was killed early Saturday in Tensas Parish when his car ran off the road and flipped, Trooper Albert Paxton of the Louisiana State Police said.

Edward L. Brooks, 52, of Newellton, was eastbound on Louisiana 575 at about 1:30 Saturday morning when his 1993 Toyota Tercel ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.

Brooks, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, Paxton said.
