A 15-year-old will stand trial for robbery in February in a purse-snatching that was foiled by a good samaritan.
Marquis Black, 15, 1316 Grove St., appeared before Circuit Court Judge M. James Chaney Friday to be arraigned after an indictment by the Warren County grand jury for robbery. Black is represented by Branan Southerland.
The arraignment was made public Monday.
Black, who has been in the Warren County Jail without bond since being certified as an adult in April — meaning he will be tried three years before most are considered adults in the judicial system — will be tried Feb. 25. If convicted, he could face 15 years in prison.
Black was 14 on April 3 when he was accused of shoving a 56-year-old Mandeville, La., woman to the ground and taking her purse in the 900 block of Clay Street. She suffered scrapes on her hands and knees.
A juvenile detention officer saw the attack, gave chase and grabbed the purse as the suspect fled. The officer told police he had seen the suspect in the Warren County Youth Detention Center. Black was arrested at his home.
Other indictments, including name, age, address, the charge and arrest dates, released by the DA’s office following arraignments Monday are:
• Donnie Barnette, 21, 709 New Orleans Ave. — three counts of forgery of a counterfeit instrument and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, July 11.
